About our Food and Chef

Latin Soul came as a continued vision from the Martinez’s family. Chef Mama Martinez was taught by her mother the art of traditional Dominican cuisine. As a young girl, she helped her aunts with their dine-in restaurant in Dominican Republic serving the lunch hour crowd. Coming to the United States, after getting her Bacholer’s Degree in Accounting, she often fantasized running her own restaurant bringing the same love and care in every dish. She quit her accounting career and pursued her dream of becoming chef. In 2009, Latin Soul was opened. Latin Soul captures the essense of Dominican Republic cuisne by traditionally dishes prepared by Chef Mama Martinez. Entering Latin Soul, you’ll be welcomed by staff ready to serve your appetite. Magdalena López is the owner of Latin Soul Restaurant. She was born in the Dominican Republic and currently lives in NJ. Magdalena comes from a family of entrepreneurs involved in the restaurant business. She continued to follow in the family’s entrepreneurial mindset by opening her restaurant in collaboration with here sister - Mama Martinez. In addition to owning a restaurant, Magdalena is also a hairstylist and is passionate about making women feel more confident about themselves through giving them the hair they want.
